A dinner date on The Funny Hill

When the weather is as beautiful as it was the other night, there is only one thing to do... dinner date! We grabbed some food and gear and hike up Lustigkullen or 'The Funny Hill.' Just a few cabins situated next a stream, it was the perfect setting to chill out with the dog and take some pictures while we fixed dinner.

Main course: Pyttipanna is a Swedish staple. Just cubed potatoes, onions, and ox meat it can be found in the freezer section of every supermarket. Here you can see me cooking on a frying pan with no handle. The Hunter's Frying Pan by the Finnish brand Muurikka is designed to easily stored. When you're ready to cook it is just to fashion one from a stick and shove on the pan...BOOM!...handle.

Dessert: Banana Boats are a campfire classic. We ditch the tin foil and throw ours straight on the coals. In this version we used chocolate with mint chips inside!

Coffee: No Swedish outdoor experience would be complete without traditional forest coffee. Kok Kafe, or 'cooking coffee' is just coarse ground coffee. Pour it into the water and wait for it to boil. The grounds will sink to the bottom, and you're left with the best coffee you've ever tasted.

We've got some new gear that we have been anxious to try out (be sure to look out in the future for full articles and reviews of our new equipment) so this was a perfect opportunity to try it out.

Here I'm sporting my new lightweight backpack from Haglöfs. The Strive is part of their L.I.M. series, and I can't wait to use it on longer journeys. But this was my first time using it, so I can't give an honest review just yet. I will say this however, one of the coolest features of this pack are the wing pockets on the side. You can fit a tone of stuff in there, and it is easily accessible. This is perfect for me because when I'm hiking I hate taking off my pack, I even keep it on when peeing. So I like to have a fair few things in easy reach.

This is our newest piece of equipment, the Onyx 7 light by Tentipi. This tent can hold up to 7 people, and can even be used with a wood stove. Needless to say we plan on using this for future dog mushing tours, plenty of room for us and some of our furry friends. Check back in the future for more articles about this tent.
